Organotin

In recent years, with the promotion of green and health idea, poisonous organotin compounds will require our attention.

Now two common and frequently used organotin compounds are TBT (Tributyltin, TBT) and Triphenyl Tin (Fentin (Triphenyltin-)-chloride) which have been widely used in paints, coatings and so on. TBT is used as hull anti-fouling paints due to its bactericidal and alga killing features as well as its prevention of oysters and other marine organisms from attachment to hull. Although organotin compounds are anti-fouling, it will slowly flow into the sea from paints, which will result in many non-target organisms poisoning. For this many Western countries have banned or restricted it. Extensive use of TBT paints affects the area near ships where ng / L TBT will always have bad effects in many aquatic organisms. Therefore, TBT is considered to be the most toxic man-made marine substance, In addition, strong bio-accumulation ability of TBT can enter our bodies through the food chain.

Studies have also shown that organotin compounds can cause serious damage to mammals, effecting biology reproduction, interfere with hormone secretion, resulting in bad reproduction.

Organotin compounds are commonly found in PVC stabilizer, anti-acidifier agent, antimicrobial agent , anti-pollution agent , preservative, fungicide , fuel and paint.
