RoHS is the acronym for the Restriction of the use of certain Hazardous Substances in electrical and electronic equipment. From July 1, 2006, ROHS Directive is on the restriction use of certain hazardous substances found in electrical and electronic products in the EU market, including lead (Pb), mercury (Hg), cadmium (Cd), hexavalent chromium (CrVI), Poly-brominated Biphenyls (PBB) or Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers (PBDE). For the limit cadmium (Cd) is 100ppm (0.01%), while the other five substances are 1000ppm (0.1%).
Products exported to EU have to meet the above limit requirements and the enterprise has to produce appropriate documents. Products which do not meet the requirements will be refused to enter into the EU market. The directive is not applicable to electrical and electronic equipment components, repaired parts and re-used components put on the before July 1, 2006.
RoHS directive was converted to the laws and regulations of EU on December 31, 2005, while manufacturers’ products will comply with the Directive from July 1, 2006. The EU RoHS Directive covers all energy-consuming products in principle, but mainly for electrical, solid, liquid and gaseous fuel products. The Directive affects not only finished- product manufacturers, but also parts manufacturers.
Directive requirements: manufacturers will have an ecological assessment of products’ life cycle which is for the analysis of raw materials, output materials, production process, packaging, transportation installation, as well as maintenance, sales, use, end-of-life analysis. The assessment covers raw materials and energy consumption, environmental impact, forecast waste sand recycling methods.
RoHS Directive "electrical and electronic equipment" refers to the device which has to rely on current or electromagnetic fields to work well and the device listed below which can generate, transmit and measure the current and electromagnetic field, furthermore these devices are designed of its voltage which can not exceed 1000V for AC and 1500V for DC.
